The logos and graphics associated with The MiscKit have been created by a wide variety of personalities from the NeXT community. We would like to both thank them for their efforts and salute their creativity.

Cornucopia Image

The MiscKit Cornucopia

The cornucopia has traditionally been a symbol emblematic of abundance. The MiscKit certainly contains an abundance of classes. Since the objects in the MiscKit can be thought of as "the building blocks" of object oriented OPENSTEP and NEXTSTEP programs, we chose to have blocks spelling "Misc" spilling out of the cornucopia.

Many thanks to Steve Weintz for creating and donating this graphic.

MiscKit Logo

The OPENSTEP MiscKit logo

With the release of a "new" MiscKit, a new logo to reflect the transition from NEXTSTEP to OPENSTEP and on to Rhapsody was desired. While the chosen logo may seem abstract, is has significance. You'll note that it has a "miscellaneous" feel about it, yet there is an internal symmetry that helps to tie it together. This reflects the design of the kit--it is a potpourri of ideas, with an attempt to keep it consistent, as if it were an extension of the OPENSTEP technologies. We meticulously included all the colors of the Apple and NeXT logos, to create a tie-in with the base technology that inspires The MiscKit.

Many thanks to Kris Magnusson and Don Yacktman for creating and donating this graphic. (Kris was the real designer; Don just added the purple square to complete the desired color palette.)

NEXTSTEP MiscKit Logo

The NEXTSTEP MiscKit logo

This is the logo that has been with The MiscKit almost from the beginning. The letters in the word "MISC" are laid out in the same positions and colors as those on the "NeXT" logo. Although NeXT's cube motif was retained, rather than copy the logo verbatim and risk trademark infringement, the cubes were drawn differently. The large NeXT cube was broken into four smaller cubes, and only one of those cubes has been tipped--and tipped in the opposite direction. The logo shows an affinity for the NeXT technology while still retaining an individual identity.

Many thanks to Carl Lindberg for creating and donating this graphic.

NEXTSTEP MiscKit Logo

The object.foundation logo

While not strictly a MiscKit logo, this logo is associated with the kit and related projects. The design goal was to create something that reflected the goals of the object.foundation while retaining extreme simplicity. Because the object.foundation specializes in software components, the feel of a gear within a gear feels appropriate. By drawing the gears in a slightly stylized manner, asthetic beauty is added to the logo's simplicity.

Many thanks to Kris Magnusson for creating and donating this graphic.
